about

"Color Digits” is an aesthetical application of an original formalization of the RGB computer colour code by Petrônio Bendito: “I am motivated to discover the potential of the RGB color cube as an art making tool by looking at its perceptual configuration.” It is a slowly-moving grid of 16 colors selected from a mathematical configuration within the RGB color cube.
The 2.0 version adds Didier Guigue’s translation model of this colour code to the digital sound domain. He started from the observation that the numerical RGB values used by Bendito reproduce a harmonic structure when thinking them as Herz values. Thus each colour has it own sound whose time evolution obeys, through several translation parameters, the bi-dimensional “circulation” of the colours in the square. The overall result is an intimist and minimalist ambient which favors a somewhat ‘zen’ meditation experience. “Color Digits” can be performed as a video, a multimedia installation, or with real-time live performers. This CD compiles 8 different mixes of the soundtrack. As all the music was produced within the Reason ® software, this work is also to be considered as part of the 'Reason Studies' project (see that CD).
